Fanny Crosby (1820-1915) was a prominent American hymnist and poet who composed over 8,000 hymns during her lifetime. Despite being blind since infancy, Crosby became a highly respected figure in the Christian community for her beautiful and inspiring lyrics that touched the hearts of millions. Crosby was born in Putnam County, New York, and lost her sight at the age of six weeks due to a medical error. Despite her blindness, she was a precocious child and developed a keen interest in poetry and literature. At the age of 15, she enrolled at the New York Institution for the Blind, where she excelled in her studies and learned to play several musical instruments, including the piano and guitar. Crosby began writing poetry at a young age and published her first book, a volume of poetry called "The Blind Girl and Other Poems," at the age of 23. However, it was her hymn-writing that would bring her the most fame and recognition. Her hymns, which often focused on themes of faith, love, and redemption, were sung by millions of people in churches around the world. Some of Crosby's most famous hymns include "Blessed Assurance," "To God Be the Glory," "Rescue the Perishing," and "All the Way My Savior Leads Me." Her hymns were known for their simple yet profound messages, as well as their beautiful melodies and harmonies. In addition to her hymn-writing, Crosby was also a well-respected speaker and advocate for the blind. She traveled throughout the United States and Europe, speaking at conventions and raising awareness about the challenges faced by the visually impaired. She was a friend and correspondent of many prominent figures of her time, including Presidents Grover Cleveland and Benjamin Harrison, and the industrialist John D. Rockefeller. Despite her many accomplishments, Crosby remained humble and devoted to her faith throughout her life. She once said, "It seemed intended by the blessed providence of God that I should be blind all my life, and I thank him for the dispensation. If perfect earthly sight were offered me tomorrow I would not accept it. I might not have sung hymns to the praise of God if I had been distracted by the beautiful and interesting things about me." Today, Fanny Crosby is remembered as one of the most prolific and beloved hymnists in history. Her hymns continue to inspire and uplift people of all faiths and backgrounds, and her life serves as a testament to the power of faith, perseverance, and creativity in the face of adversity. #missionarylife #missionaries #christian #jesus #god #bible #story Watch More Missionary Biographies Ziegenbalg • Missionary Life History in Tamil / Ba...
