Aysanabee - Near to Death

I have been busy working on an album, but thought I would share a story and an old song. I used to work up north in the deep wilderness, one winter I was crossing a frozen river when I broke through. I managed to hack my axe into the ice before being completely pulled under. I could feel the rushing river yanking at my snowshoes and my snowsuit slowly becoming heavier with icy water. Every time I tried to pull myself onto the ice and closer to shore more ice would break, but if I had stopped I would have been pulled under and down stream, trapped under the ice and unable to swim. I used to be able to recall what I had felt in that moment vividly: questioning whether I was on the right path. In that moment, it felt like it was the end. I thought I would never see my loved ones again, I would never see the world, and I would never have a chance to chase my dreams. I called out to creator, god, whatever you want to call it, asking for life. I pulled myself to shore one axe swing at a time, started a fire and dried off before snowshoeing through a dark February night back to camp. Thirteen kilometres of thinking about what I wanted to do with this life. Three months later I had my ticket booked to Toronto. This song is called Near to Death, and for awhile, I had forgotten about it. 📸 @focusedrap
