Edward Taylor plays the exciting Carillon by Herbert Murrill. The Carillon theme sets off in the right hand and is joined by a Fanfare style harmonic melody. The music builds until a majestic fanfare in the manuals and the carillon transferred to the pedals. A short middle section leads the music to another key, this time with the fanfare style accompaniment in the right hand and the carillon in the left. The Tuba interjects before this all happens again. A final coda where the pedals take over the Carillon for a much longer time leads the music to an exciting conclusion. The final chord is manuals only and calls for either the swell pedal to perform a crescendo, or for a crescendo pedal. I chose to use the sequencer to perform a crescendo using the whole organ from full swell box closed to full organ. As far as I am aware this is one of only two organ compositions by Murrill although he famously arranged Walton's Crown Imperial for Organ and also his First symphony for piano duet. Murrill is also known for his wonderful Canticles in E, regular repertoire for many cathedral choirs Performed here at Carlisle Cathedral
