Jeff Buckley (full name Jeffrey Scott Buckley, born November 17, 1966, in Anaheim, California) was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist, celebrated for his extraordinary vocal range, emotional intensity, and genre-defying artistry that blended rock, folk, and jazz influences. Buckley emerged from New York’s East Village music scene in the early 1990s, captivating audiences with intimate performances at clubs such as Sin-é. His debut (and only completed studio) album, Grace (1994), became a critical and cult classic, featuring haunting tracks like “Last Goodbye”, “Lover, You Should’ve Come Over”, and his now-iconic rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah.” Though initially modest in commercial success, Grace grew into one of the most influential albums of its era, praised for its emotional honesty, lush production, and Buckley’s breathtaking four-octave vocal ability. Tragically, his life was cut short in 1997 when he drowned accidentally in the Wolf River Harbor in Memphis, Tennessee, while working on his second album, later released posthumously as Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk (1998).
