Teamwork is key in an accountable care organization (ACO). But a lack of time and alignment with priorities may be keeping some physician and nurses from engaging in the effort to create more coordinated care. Experts at Arizona Connected Care (AzCC) in Tucson say they have worked to engage physicians and nurses—and have seen "powerful" results. AzCC is an ACO that includes Tucson Medical Center, New Pueblo Medicine, Saguaro Physicians and other community providers. In early 2012, AzCC was selected to participate in the Medicare Shared Savings Program, sponsored by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Optum spoke with AzCC leaders to learnmore about the importance of physician and nurse engagement and how such engagement has led to dramatic changes in patient care.
