The Jazz Video Game Medley comes to a fiery conclusion with the its last movement, paying tribute to some of the baddest bosses and battle themes in gaming! I’m still so grateful to everyone involved who helped create this awesome series of videos. I can’t wait to make more big projects like this again! I’ve certainly learned a lot about myself through completing this project, both as an arranger and a person, and I think I’ve definitely grown, which is what I’m always striving to do with my channel. This particular movement pays tribute to numerous wonderful battle and boss themes in video game music! This was actually the first movement I arranged, with Movement I being second, and Movement II being the last! In retrospect, the various themes of each movement sort of parallel with the various triforces! Movement I was courage, Movement II wisdom, and Movement III power. To top it all off, they were color coded appropriately! During my time at Berklee, I’ve played in various recitals and ensembles. Of these recitals was my friend Yusuf’s (drummer and timpanist in this movement) senior recital, which was an awesome jazz + metal fusion. I decided to take inspiration from the jazz metal idea, and use that idea to create a menacing, dirty big band + strings arrangement. I am super happy with how it turned out. Some of the textures here are just so much better than I could have imagined during the time of arranging, including the big brass swell before the Pokémon Battle Theme kicks in, the trumpets growling into plunger mutes, and the juxtaposition of MEGALOVANIA and Gangplank Galleon! Again, I’m so glad that I was able to have so many live musicians join me for this project, as they really brought the music to life. Now that the Jazz Video Game Medley is complete, I have a few more things to upload that are related to it! One of these will be a single video that has all three movements stitched together, with sheet music being displayed on screen. I’ll also be releasing a behind the scenes video showing different things that went into the process of creating this! Hope you’re all looking forward to it!
