I purposefully didn't try to match these tones exactly - I'd actually say the Vintage Modern has a bit more of a range of usable tones (would be easier to match the VM's EQ response to the 2203 than the other way around). I suspect there will be some in the comments who'll say the VM is too bright but it can be easily tamed - I just wanted a more aggressive sound and wanted to show what the amp can do. A lot of people wonder if a Vintage Modern can keep up with a 2203.... Its hard to say - the Vintage Modern is definitely a looser circuit and they both excel at different things. Vintage Modern's are one of the best bargains you can find from Marshall's line up IMO. Its on the VM's HDR channel (its essentially a JTM45 circuit with an extra gain stage).
