SOUNDBITE: (English) Dan Michael, 'Wall Street Journal' Journalist who specialises on Airbus: "Airbus still face big financial challenges the A380 but a big hole in their finances and the A350 which is the next plane they want to build is also had a lot of problems so they need to work very hard to get their financial house back in order, and that's what they're trying to do with this restructuring programme, and they're also going to be pushing sales very hard to generate revenue and cash flow" 16. Wide of executives posing for cameras STORYLINE: After repeated and embarrassing delays, Airbus delivered its first A380 superjumbo jet on Monday - a critical step for the European plane maker in its efforts to rebound from a string of troubles. Singapore Airlines is finally taking delivery of the Airbus double-decker jet - the world's largest passenger plane - almost two years late. The glitzy handover ceremony included a sound and light show, followed by speeches and an exchange of gifts. President and chief executive officer (CEO) Thomas Enders welcomed an audience in Toulouse for the handover ceremony. "Today we are here to celebrate this beautiful mature aircrafts coming of age to watch it take its rightful place in the world working for major airlines," he said. Singapore Airlines' chief executive, Chew Choon Seng told the audience at the ceremony it was "a happy and proud occasion for Singapore airlines". "Although it has taken more time than first anticipated the A330 I can assure you is well worth the wait," he added. Airbus has gone though five CEOs as multiple delays in the A380 programme resulted in massive write-offs and a restructuring plan that foresees 10-thousand job cuts over four years, not to mention billions of euros (dollars) in lost profit. Such delays in Airbus' launch have hurt more than just profits: Airbus' reputation has suffered, and US rival Boeing Company grabbed the top sales spot in 2006.
