We are facing a growing identity crisis for knowledge workers as AI begins to do 60–80% of many white-collar jobs faster and cheaper, creating anxiety for employees and even CEOs who fear being replaced. In contrast, hands-on trades like plumbing and electrical work remain in high demand because AI cannot physically fix homes. Is chasing degrees, titles, and corporate ladders still worth it? Or do we have this drive from inherited expectations around status, money, and self-perception? We should no longer think in terms of status, and accept that machines will handle more digital work. We should focus on regaining humanity through tangible, present activities—working with hands (gardening, cooking), connecting with people, and reducing digital noise through screen-free spaces, silence rooms, and quiet environments. In this way, our lives will not be overwhelmed by the constant feeling that AI is more of a threat than a support.
