This is the next song in the Ramayana series, composed in Saama raagam and set to Aadi taalam. It describes the blossoming of friendship between Lord Rama and King Sugriva. After Hanuman introduces them to each other, Rama and Sugriva share their respective sorrows and take a solemn oath of friendship in the presence of the sacred fire. Lord Rama promises Sugriva that He will slay Vali and restore Sugriva’s lost kingdom. However, Sugriva initially finds it hard to believe Rama’s assurance. To demonstrate His divine strength, Lord Rama pierces and destroys hundreds of massive trees with a single arrow.
