In this video, Ed visited the National Landlord Investment Show at Old Billingsgate in London to ask landlords if they should pay a wealth tax. With the UK facing a deepening housing crisis, the conversation around wealth inequality and the role of property ownership is becoming more urgent. Landlords sit at the centre of that conversation, often criticised for benefiting from a housing system that many argue is no longer fair or sustainable. The convention brought together hundreds of landlords, investors, developers, and letting agents, all looking to expand or protect their interests in the property market. Against that backdrop, I asked what they think about a potential tax on their accumulated wealth, whether it’s fair to ask the wealthiest property owners to contribute more, and how they view their place in the broader economy. It’s not often that landlords are asked difficult questions in public, especially in a space designed to support their interests. This video is about what happens when that question is asked face-to-face. Reporter: Ed Campbell Camera: Oli Johnson Like PoliticsJOE? We need your support: / politicsjoe
