Serial killer, rapist, cannibal: Joachim Kroll is considered one of the worst criminals in post-war German history. He killed at least eight people between 1955 and 1976 and dismembered a four-year-old girl. Police later found parts of her body in a cooking pot in his apartment. #JoachimKroll Our host Hamzi wants to know: Who was Joachim Kroll and how was he able to murder seemingly undetected for over 20 years? To find out, Hamzi meets former investigator Bernd Jägers. He is considered the man who convicted serial killer Joachim Kroll. He confessed to him some of his gruesome crimes. Attorney and criminal defense attorney André Miegel from Duisburg talks with Hamzi about how this case has affected the city of Duisburg and the entire Ruhr area and what it feels like to defend a murderer in court. In a conversation with legal psychologist Natalie Oesterlein, Hamzi tries to gain insight into the cannibal's mind. The trial before the Duisburg Regional Court was a major media event. Because the courtroom was too small for the large number of inquiries, only selected media outlets and observers were able to attend. On April 8, 1982, Joachim Kroll was sentenced to nine life sentences after a total of 155 days of trial.
