The composer does not use the familiar baroque/classical names for the various movements of his suite. But there is clearly inspiration drawn from those old forms. I definitely ain't no musicologist. I. Allegro con anima A bright and chipper prelude. This will cheer you up whenever you're blue. II. Adagietto If the previous one cheered you up, the jarring dissonances of this piece that I think of as some kind of weird chaconne will get you down again right away. III. Vivo A quick sprint, the scherzo of this suite to be sure. Finger-twisting awkwardness abounds. IV. Andantino It's as though the previous movement lost all of its steam and slowed to an intimate, reflective crawl. A beautiful lyrical intermezzo that sets us up for the big finale. V. Allegro con brio Yup, it's the toccata of the family. A big, boisterous finish all up and down the keyboard.
