This video features the renowned Serbian poet and academic Matija Bećković speaking at the opening of the exhibition “In the Name of the People – Political Repression in Serbia, 1944–1953”, held in Belgrade in 2014. In his address, Bećković reflects on the tragic legacy of political persecution and the suffering of innocent people during the early years of communist rule in Yugoslavia. He emphasizes the moral duty to preserve memory, honor the victims, and speak openly about injustices committed in the name of ideology. Bećković highlights that a nation cannot move forward without truth, and that remembering those who were silenced is an act of dignity, responsibility, and historical justice.
