Cultural Infusion: Cultural and Creative Industries in Urban Revitalization

The cultural and creative industries are a powerful catalyst for urban revitalization, with a unique ability to breathe new life into urban areas, attracting investment, consumers, business and jobs, and encouraging the adaptive re-use of old infrastructure – including built heritage. These sectors are growing in most cities across the world, including LAC cities. The big question facing policymakers and urban practitioners is: how to nurture and direct growth in ways that unlock the economic and social potential for local revitalization? What leadership, governance, and management approaches can be used to drive development? And now, with the advent of COVID-19, what additional strategies are required for resilience and renewal? The webinar, hosted by the IDB’s Living Heritage Program (HUD) and Culture and Creativity Unit (KIC), is an opportunity to learn about and discuss the general principles on cultural and creative industries in urban revitalization projects, and to consider new strategies required for recovery and renewal in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis.
