This is a fun little roguelike for the PICO-8, which is pretty harsh in terms of difficulty. There are a lot of scenarios where you might end up getting cornered by enemies, which usually results in death. Most gear that is designated for battle can usually help you deal with a bunch of enemies, maybe even take down some of the more advanced ones later on in the game. Stealth and avoiding direct confrontation is really good, so I decided to try and play the game without equipping any battle gear and just gun it towards the final level. Few things to note is that gear and items are not identified until you use / put them on. Thus you usually end up wasting a few good orbs or end up wearing one of the two cursed items in the game. (A vampire cloak and an amulet that hurts you if you hurt others, but heals you for every new level you reach). The latter cursed item would have been great in this run, but alas I never end up finding. Monsters react strongly to light and noise. Having an orb of light activated or your torch being lit will attract all aggro in the area, which is definitely not the ideal scenario, especially for this run. However, without light, your vision is also restricted, unless you have an item equipped that grants you darkvision, which is a status that increased your sight in the dark. I end up finding an amulet and upgrading it a bunch, which really helped along the way. However, another downside of being in the dark is that vampire bats will chase you down, and they hit for a lot of damage. If you light up the place they are in however, they will burst into flames. There was a scenario like that during this run, so I wanted to leave the level early, since I wasn't sure if bats that die from the burst of flames not caused by you will still count towards the kill counter.Overall, this game feels a bit more towards the side of getting lucky, finding the proper items and rolling the proper level layout and you know, having that one teleport orb do its job correctly and the final level not start you in a small room where you get cornered by all the elite enemies.
