Playing poker out of position as the preflop raiser is difficult. Fortunately, you're going to learn exactly what your strategy should be for this common spot, in this entry of the Mastering GTO series! In this video, Pokercoaching coach & founder Jonathan Little walks you through the fundamental poker strategy for playing this tricky spot right, so that you can navigate even the toughest situations at the poker table! We've all been in this common spot: You raise preflop, and a player in position calls. You go to the flop out of position, and you just aren't sure what to do, so you make a small c-bet... but that's where you're going wrong! This video aims to teach you which configurations are best for you to bet (and what bet size to use), and which spots you should check (for pot control or deception), as well as the importance of considering both players ranges and who holds the best hands (i.e. a range advantage and/or nut advantage). Tips For Playing Out Of Position As The Preflop Raiser #1: Avoid C-Betting Hands With Little To No Equity To Improve. When you are out of position, you are at a positional disadvantage, so you must avoid betting with hands that have little to no equity to improve. Tips For Playing Out Of Position As The Preflop Raiser #2: Focus On Range Asymmetries & Range/Nut Advantages. Attack in spots as the out of position preflop raiser when you can have all of the best hands, and your opponent can have none of them (i.e. high card boards where your opponent would generally 3-bet their hands that connect the most.) Tips For Playing Out Of Position As The Preflop Raiser #3: Recognise Preflop Ranges & How They Connect Postflop. As your range gets wider & weaker, you will find that you need to check more when out of position as the preflop raiser. This is because you should strive to play a balanced strategy, so as your range contains more & more hands that do not want to build a big pot, you must check more & more with your best hands so that you are not exploitable. 0:00 - Intro 3:20 - Strategy Deep Dive 8:56 - When To Check 13:13 - Poker Trainer Drills This video features PEAKGTO, the all-in-one study tool that teaches you the why behind your decisions! #jonathanlittle #pokerstrategy #pokertips
