If you have an interest in observing cool butterfly and moth specimens one thing I can suggest for sure is to learn how to run bait traps. Baiting for butterflies and moths can be one of the most productive ways to attract species of insects that are hard to find or that stay hidden from view. These shy species often eat rotting fruit and can be observed easily by use of a bait trap. In this video, we will make our classic butterfly fruit recipe and show you how to make the bait from start to finish. This recipe has been used to attract thousands of butterflies and moths as well as beetles, wasps, flies and lots of other insects. The recipe is as follows: 5 apples 2 bananas 1/2 cup of sugar 1/2 cup of water Chop them up and put the fruit in a zip lock bag and place it in the sun. After a few days, the fruit will ferment and the ziplock bag will start filling up with gas. That is when you know your fruit bait is ready to use. If you have a bait mixture that works for you, please let me know and I will try it out in another video. We would love to hear from you. #butterfly #butterflies #bait #keysmoths #entomology #butterflycollector
