On Sunday, 7 December 2025, we took a scenic drive up to Varirata National Park in Sogeri, Central Province, on a cold, rainy and mist-covered day. The road wound through thick forest, with low clouds and fog rolling in — and by the time we reached the famous lookout, it was completely blanketed in mist, something straight out of a Stephen King novel. Despite the weather, the experience was unforgettable. Join us as we drive through Varirata National Park, up to the lookout and back, soaking in the atmosphere of one of Papua New Guinea’s most important conservation areas. About Varirata National Park Declared PNG’s first national park in 1969, Varirata National Park sits on the Sogeri Plateau, just outside Port Moresby. The park is renowned for its rich birdlife, including birds of paradise, its eucalyptus forests, cool mountain climate, and sweeping views over the Brown River and Port Moresby on clear days. It remains a vital natural refuge, popular with hikers, birdwatchers, photographers and families seeking a break from the city. This video captures Varirata in a different mood — quiet, moody and mysterious — reminding us that nature is just as powerful and beautiful in the mist. ▶️ Drive with us through Varirata National Park and experience it for yourself.
