[email protected] As many rivers across the PNW recede from the major atmospheric river that has impacted the region, large swaths of Western Washington are still experiencing flooding. This is specifically the case along the Green River in King County, which is controlled by the Howard Hanson Dam upriver. Due to the large amount of rain (12-18" in the Cascades) that is flowing into the reservoir, the US Army Corps of Engineers has to keep the river at a higher than normal level, effectively in flood stage, to protect the dam and the reservoir. This is resulting in significant, ongoing flooding in the Green River valley, especially in parts of Auburn and Kent, where there are road closures and widespread flooding of fields. This area also saw a Chevron gas station be flooded, which led to a fuel spill and fuel entering the floodwaters. All filmed on the afternoon of Friday, December 12th, 2025.
