Schulenburg is a small Texas town located midway between Houston and San Antonio, with a population just above 2,000 people. The town began in the late 1800's due to a railroad depot and there were a lot of Czech and German immigrants that shaped the culture of the area. The town itself translates to "School Town," and they prioritized education in this area with excellent elementary schools, Catholic schools and a community college today. It is known for the Painted Churches that are scattered about the area. They actually look pretty impressive and cool, with paintings all along the inside. There is a main street with historic architecture, with the Texas Polka Music Museum and Stanzel Model Aircraft Museum located nearby. The historic Sengelmann Hall is located along main street, featuring live music every Wednesday as one of the most unique dance halls in the U.S.. Adolf's Bar is located nearby and they also feature live music. After checking out this interesting Texas town I was back on the highway heading toward the Texas Hill Country. Good times.
