The 4 letters of each type are actually a means of decoding their unique cognitive function stack. Each type leads with a specific function in their 1st slot, the opposite of which is their 4th, or “inferior” function. Understanding our functions allows us to decipher what the natural tendencies and preferences of our brains are, and to understand that they are fundamentally different from others’. MBTI teaches us that being well aware of our 4th function, and all of our functions, enables us to know where our blind spots are, as well as what we need to develop in order to actualise our potential and become a more well-rounded version of ourselves.
