Street Fighter II: Champion Edition released in 1992 by Capcom, is an enhanced version with improvements. The main innovation of this edition was allowing players to choose bosses from the original game as playable characters, in addition to allowing mirror battles, that is, fights between identical characters (e.g.: Ryu against Ryu). This brought a new layer of depth to the game, as previously it was not possible to play with characters like M. Bison, Vega, Sagat and Balrog. The gameplay maintained the 2D fighting mechanics that made the series famous, but received adjustments to character balance, with skills and moves being optimized to make fights fairer. With a roster of 12 playable characters, each with their own fighting style, Street Fighter II: Champion Edition stood out in arcades and later on home consoles, solidifying the title as a landmark in fighting games. The game continued to set the standards for the genre, with controls that were simple to understand but required practice to master, such as the half-moon commands for Hadouken (Ryu/Ken) and charging moves like Guile's Sonic Boom. The success of this edition helped increase the popularity of the Street Fighter franchise over the decades.
