Gustav Mahler - an amazing, hardly known draft for a symphonic Scherzo in c-minor - COMPLETED

*** UPDATE -- please listen to an improved version at www.gerdprengel.de/mahler.mp3 score: www.gerdprengel.de/mahler.pdf *** Possibly around the time of the 2nd symphony (exact time is unknown) Mahler drafted a powerful Scherzo (also in c-minor and with certain similiarities to the middle part of the 2nd mov. of that symphony). Especially the Trio in Ab-Major in the middle is just gorgeous with a melodically wonderful and solemn theme which later develops to most passionate outbursts. This fascinated me so much that I tried to complete it which I present to you here with the corresponding sketches. I admit that it was not an easy task to read and identify always correctly the notes from the sketches and the complex structure of that draft, but I tried to follow those sketches as good as for me possible and deviating only a few times. The - as I think - powerful Coda (10:50ff) however is composed by me (but still on the basis of those sketched themes).
