www.ozkanozmenphotography.com This is a review of the two legendary portrait lenses: Canon 85mm f/1.2L II USM Lens vs Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4G . I respect both brands equally. Why this test? I used to shoot with Canon, and recently switched to Nikon. One of the lenses that i needed to leave behind was the Canon 85mm f1.2 Mark 2. Before i sold it, i wanted to see if there is a big difference in between the two. This is the main reason i prepared this video.Maybe there is more people out there, curious to find out the difference, especially in the way they blur the out of focus areas. Since many comparing or reviews available on internet were either the lens charts, shooting bricks, post stamps or unrelated pictures, i wanted to use these lenses for their real purpose: shooting portraits and testing their out of focus rendering capacity. Main question is: which one has the better shallow depth of field? To find that out: During the shots,Canon 85mm f1.2 was always at 1.2 and Nikon 85mm f1.4 always at f1.4. No i do not think i should have stopped down the 85mm f1.2 to F1.4, that just does not make sense to me. I want to see the results at their wide open setting, because that is the main reason you buy these lenses. Since Nikon 85mm f1.4g focuses around 10cm closer (95cm vs 85cm) we also used it at minimum focusing distance to see if it played a role in blur. If you are into more detail, here is an excellent comparison of these lenses produced by genotypewriter: http://www.flickr.com/photos/genotype... " Technical Aspect: As camera, we used a Nikon D3 with 85mm f1.4 g and 5d Mark iii with 85mm f1.2. We shot jpg s, in both cameras with their own Picture setting set to standart. Both shot at Iso 200. Since 5d mark 3 has higher megapixels we reduced it to 10 megapixels (in camera) in order to get the a similar size jpg. White balances were set to cloudy, since most of the shots were on a cloudy day, inside we put them on auto White balance, that is why there is a bit of color difference in results. No noise reduction is used in neither of the cameras. Music by Teknoaxe http://www.youtube.com/show/teknoaxes...
