What Is Brain Cavernoma? Neurosurgeon Dr Arun L Naik explores in this video. Cavernoma is also called cavernous malformation. Cavernoma symptoms are seizures, weakness and speech arrest. Cavernoma signs are coma and paralysis. It causes Brain hemorrhage. Treatment of cavernoma is surgery. Brain hemorrhage symptoms are headache, visual defects and coma. Brain hemorrhage treatment is by surgery. Cavernous malformation is a birth defect affecting the people at any age. What is a cavernous malformation Cavernous malformation is a clusters of abnormal, tiny thinned out blood vessels called capillaries filled with blood and located inside the brain. It looks like a small blackberry. Sometimes it can happen in the spinal cord. They are also called by different names. cavernomas, cavernous angiomas, cavernous hemangiomas or intracranial vascular malformations. It is said that About 1 in 200 people have cavernous malformations. Most of them are silent in their lifetime. They dont cause any problems. Causes of cavernoma? About 20% of people with cerebral cavernous malformations have the hereditary type passed on from generations. Symptoms of cavernoma Most people A person with a cavernous malformation may experience no symptoms. When repeated hemorrahges happen, iron in the blood is layered on the surrounding brain. This iron is irritant to the brain and can cause seizures or fits. Symptoms depend on the location of the lesion. Some of the symptoms are Weakness in arms or legs, Vision problem, Balance problem, Memory and attention problem, Headache, speech problem or difficulty in walking. When & How to Seek Medical Care If you experience sudden neurological symptoms such as sudden severe headache, vomiting, seizures, weakness in arms or legs, vision problems, memory and attention problems, seek medical attention immediately. How to diagnose cavernoma? MRI scan is the best mode of test to diagnose a CM. What is the Treatment for cavernoma No intervention Surgery Medications for seizures Some tips on what to do if a child has a brain stroke or fits. Shift the child to a safe place so that he can be saved from injuring himself. Keep him to his side, right or left If he has saliva blocking his nose or mouth, try to clear it with a napkin or kerchief. Never put water in his mouth, this way you may be choking him to death. Never give any metallic object to hold because he may poke his eyes with that. Time is brain. Every minute counts. Act fast Call for help.
