The Australian continent, much like Canada, despite its massive land mass, has only narrow pockets of habitability. If you look at a population map of the two countries, you can almost pinpoint exactly where those areas are. The areas with the best climates usually already have the largest populations. Obviously, though, much of Australia’s sparsely populated interior is harsh for the exact opposite reason that Canada’s is. Much of Australia is simply too hot and too dry to support large-scale settlement. Interestingly, in the 1800s, as new settlers made their way across the continent, they hoped that further inland would be similar to other continents. They hoped for lush forests, rivers, and fertile land. And the only way to truly figure out what was there was to make expeditions into the unknown. As we now know, in many regions those expectations proved disastrously wrong, and many of the expeditions would end horribly as a result. This is the Eyre Expedition, and as always, viewer discretion is advised. Patreon ➡️ / scaryinteresting Podcast ➡️ https://www.spreaker.com/show/scary-i...
