Armed Forces of the Philippines Change of Command and Testimonial Review in Honor of General Leonardo B. Guerrero Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City April 18, 2018 President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Change of Command Ceremony and Testimonial Review for outgoing AFP Chief of Staff General Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero at the Camp General Emilio Aguinaldo in Quezon City. In his keynote address, President Duterte extended his congratulations to General Guerrero for his successful tour of duty as the 49th AFP Chief of Staff and cited a few of the latter’s accomplishments since assuming post in October last year, just after the liberation of Marawi City from Islamic terrorists. General Guerrero led various clearing and reconstruction works in Marawi City, not to mention his thrust for the military’s continuous efforts in preventing terrorist threats that could escalate to another conflict and hamper the city’s progress. The Commander-in-Chief also mentioned that one of General Guerrero’s notable contributions as AFP Chief of Staff is the “unparalleled” number of communist and terrorist surrenderees from less than 800 prior to his assumption, to more than 5,000 during his tour of duty. “These achievements have not come without cost, but let me assure you, our uniformed personnel, kayong lahat po, that the government remains committed in enhancing your capabilities, promoting your welfare, and looking for the needs of the fallen and injured and their families,” President Duterte said. Lieutenant General Carlito G. Galvez, Jr. succeeded General Guerrero as the new AFP Chief of Staff. At the end of President Duterte’s speech, he called on all the troops to render their support to Lieutenant General Galvez. “I am confident that the AFP will continue to move forward in the right direction under the leadership of our new Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Carlito Galvez. With an excellent and motivated work force behind General Galvez, I am optimistic that the AFP will sustain its gains and remain at the forefront of our fight against all threats of our sovereignty,” the President ended. * * Connect with RTVM Website: http://rtvm.gov.ph Facebook: www.facebook.com/presidentialcom and www.facebook.com/rtvmalacanang Twitter: @RTVMalacanang Google+: google.com/+RTVMalacanang
