Every final Sunday of the month at 2pm, the Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library (CHPL) Downtown Main Library hosts a live performance from a local artist featured on the Social Stairs. These local artists record a performance of their work and share the stories of their musical careers with the CHPL Story Center through oral history interviews. Hailing from the riverfront grit and glow of Cincinnati, Darlene is a three-piece indie band blending intimate storytelling with understated sonic punch. Formed by longtime friends and collaborators in 2010, the group stitches together pop-driven melodies, sparkling drone guitar work, warm melodic bass, and percussion that moves effortlessly between subtlety and cathartic release. Darlene is Dana Hamblen (AKA Cuddly D) on bass and vocals, Rob Deslongchamps (AKA Robby D) on drums and vocals, and Jane Jordan (AKA Janey O’Laney) on guitar. Rooted in the Midwest but never confined by it, Darlene’s sound drifts between dream-pop haze, indie-punk, and a touch of DIY garage edge. Their songs explore longing, belonging, and the strange beauty of growing up and growing older, carried by vocals that feel both fragile and fiercely self-assured. Onstage, Darlene trades in authenticity that’s partly nerdy, awkward and brutally honest. The trio’s chemistry—tight, earnest, and disarmingly fun—turns each set into an invitation, pulling listeners into a world where nostalgia and the future coexist.
