For this week’s #WorkingforGwinnett, we’re spotlighting Benjamin Hulsey! Benjamin is a Firefighter Lieutenant at Station 21, and he’s been with Gwinnett County for a remarkable 14 years. Some of his responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day operations, coordinating with personnel on fire and emergency scenes, conducting training sessions, and most importantly, serving residents and supporting the well-being of those in his charge. Ben takes great pride in being a Gwinnett County firefighter and enjoy all aspects of his job. He spoke about how his coworkers are united by the desire to uphold the Gwinnett Standard. “We take great pride in serving our residents. We remain in a state of readiness, constantly preparing and training for any scene that’s thrown our way,” Ben said. “It’s motivating and inspiring coming to work and seeing the people you serve with excited and ready to serve. With the culture comes the camaraderie; we are just as prepared to serve each other as we are prepared to serve the residents. This truly is the best job in the world.” When he’s not at work, Ben spends time with his family and stays engaged with the Gwinnett community. “I’m married to my stunningly beautiful wife, Megan, who I do not deserve. She puts up with me and that is a huge task. I enjoy a good round of golf and anything Tolkien. I also play rugby for the Gwinnett Lions Rugby Club — Go Lions!” If you’d like to learn more about opportunities within Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services, Ben encourages you to stop by Station 21 to take a tour and ask any questions you may have!
