Transapical edge-to-edge mitral valve repair (TEER) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat severe mitral regurgitation caused by degenerative mitral valve disease. In humans, the TEER procedure, known as MitraClip procedure, has been performed over 100,000 times worldwide as an alternative to surgery. In dogs, TEER is done through a small chest incision under general anaesthesia and places a device called the V-Clamp guided by fluoroscopy and transesophageal echocardiography. Patients typically walk the next day and leave the hospital within two days. The reduction in mitral regurgitation severity ranges from 25% to 90%, with better outcomes seen in early-stage cases. Be sure to stay tuned for updates on little Chloe coming very soon!
