In this joint interview, Joshree Shrestha, MS, and Robert Nickel, MD, from Children's National Medical Center, Washington, DC, discuss the development of a novel HLA-specific flow cytometry-based assay to evaluate lymphocyte donor chimerism as a potential predictive indicator of engraftment outcomes in patients with sickle cell disease (SCD) undergoing haploidentical bone marrow transplantation. The performance of this assay is being evaluated using samples from the BMT CTN 1507 multicenter study (NCT03263559), which is investigating haploidentical transplantation using reduced-intensity conditioning and post-transplant cyclophosphamide for severe SCD. This interview took place at the 67th ASH Annual Meeting and Exposition, held in Orlando, FL.
