In this video, I’m sharing my personal experience with a synthetic wig that I ultimately had to throw away after noticing mild but concerning symptoms while wearing it. I knew this wig was synthetic when I purchased it — what I didn’t know was that my body is sensitive to synthetic hair. After wearing it, I began experiencing symptoms that made me uncomfortable enough to stop wearing it altogether. I also include short clips from a GBH News segment where a doctor discusses concerns around synthetic hair, including chemicals that have been found in some products, such as lead and benzene, and how exposure may be linked to health risks. This portion of the video is shared for educational and awareness purposes only. This video is not medical advice — I’m simply sharing my story in hopes it helps others who may be experiencing unexplained discomfort, itching, or sensitivity while wearing synthetic wigs or hair. If you’ve ever felt dismissed or confused about how a product made you feel, you’re not alone. Listening to your body matters. If you wear wigs due to alopecia, hair loss, or personal choice — this space is for you. Comment below if you’ve had a similar experience or if you’re exploring alternatives. Like & subscribe to support honest conversations around wigs, hair, and health.
