Speaker: Julie De Backer, MD, PhD, FESC, Department of Cardiology, Ghent University Hospital, Belgium Co-chair of the task-force for the development of ESC ACHD guidelines (2020) Presentation: What is new the 2020 ESC Guidelines for the management of adult congenital heart disease? Dr. De Backer is a genetic cardiologist with a clinical and research interest in Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) and Heritable Thoracic Aortic Diseases (HTAD) at Ghent University Hospital (Belgium). She runs the ACHD cllnic and is involved in several interdisciplinary clinics for patients with ACHD/HTAD and in the development of adequate transition programs. Her research focuses on deep cardiovascular phenotyping in Marfan syndrome and related HTAD and the relation to the genotype. Using genetically engineered animal models she and her team aim to identify new targets for better treatment and management. She is an active board member of several consortia and international societies, including Vascern, the ESC WG on Aorta and Peripheral Vascular Disease and the Montalcino Aortic Consortium. She was co-chair of the task-force for the development of new ESC ACHD guidelines (2020) and acts as associate editor for JACC.
