Yalamma and Othen Stonies ft.Shilpa Mudbi & Adithya Hothakota

@MahindraRise Yellamma and Other Stories| Shilpa Mudbi and Aditya Hotakotha| Urban Folk Project ‘Yellamma and Other Stories’ was presented at Mahindra Sanatkada Lucknow Festival 2025, themed Lucknow ke Gali Kooche. A musical storytelling by Urban Folk Project, was curated to give audiences a glimpse into the mythical world of Goddess Yellamma. An oversimplified, contemporary version of Yellamma’s myth was told through songs and prose by Shilpa and Adithya. Yellammanata - a ritualistic overnight play hosted during festive occasions by rural communities in North Karnataka, moments from the lives of a few Devadasis and Jogathis (transgender disciples) who live and embody this myth. Urban Folk Project (UFP) is an initiative to bring lesser-known folk forms and artists to the fore. Focusing mainly in the North Karnataka region, UFP uses elements of these forms to build bodies of work that engage an urban audience with folk art practices.
