Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today on our 2022 Chevy Colorado we're gonna be showing you how to install the Hopkins trailer wiring. But before we get into that, let's take a minute, check this out and make sure it's gonna work for you. So you got a trailer hitch on your truck and I need some wiring and this is where this kit is gonna come into play. Honestly, this is the route to take in my opinion, especially if you can do this at the same time you're doing your hitch, that's ideal. Makes the most sense. But one of my favorite parts about this one is it looks pretty much stacked. A lot of these trucks will have a dummy plug in here that's just snapped in, but there's no wiring connectors. So this is gonna replace that. It's gonna pop into place, hook up a few wires and you're good to go. So it's gonna give you a seven-way round type connector, which that's good for your medium to larger size trailers, campers, things like that. And then you'll also get in the bottom your four-way flat type connector. It's good for those smaller, medium size trailers as well. But it's pretty cool because having that four-way you're not gonna have to deal with an adapter. Something that would have to plug into here and then turn into a four-way. So you have both of the connectors right here at the back of your truck ready to use. Being that the wiring is gonna provide you with all of those signals, it'll keep you safe and legal. And honestly at the end of the day, this is really the best way to go. Looks good and utilizes all the factory wires that GM has back here for you. So you're not gonna have to run stuff all the way up front to the battery or tie into your taillights and run all that stuff. Pretty straightforward. Kit is gonna come with everything you need. I do suggest what I did was upgrade it to some heat shrink type butt connectors to make our connections. They're a little bit better, but the ones that come with it will work just fine. Just throwing that out there. But if you'd like to see how we set this up, feel free to follow along. We'll go ahead and hook it up together now. To begin our installation, we're gonna be underneath the back of our truck and I do suggest temporarily just lowering and removing the spare tire. It gives you a lot more room to work. But we're gonna be locating our factory wiring that we need to tie into over here on the frame rail. So this is the wiring we're gonna be working with. It's just cut there and that's what we're gonna tie into. To make it a little bit easier gonna take a trim tool. You can use a flathead screwdriver and just remove it from the frame. That way it'll come down a little ways and what I'm gonna do is get all this tape and everything removed that way we can see what we're working with. Here's what our factory wires look like and we're gonna wanna hook these up one at a time to our new harness, which is this here. And so I started to prep it with all these. What you're gonna do is strip the insulation back a little ways like that, put on a butt connector, slide it over and crimp it down. Now this kit does come with butt connectors. I upgraded to these heat shrinks, the ends seal up and just provide a little more protection against corrosion and things like that, which you can pick these up here if you wanna use them. But one's in the kit will work fine. If you use those just make sure to wrap it up with the electrical tape real good when you're all done. But now we can go over what wire is gonna go where. All right, 'cause you're not just gonna go color for color. So the new white wire that's gonna go to the factory black wire. That's gonna be the ground. The new green wire, that's gonna go to the factory green wire. That's gonna be our right turn. The new black wire, that's gonna go to the factory orange wire, which is our 12-volt power. The new red wire, that is going to get connected to the factory yellow wire here. The new blue wire, that's gonna get connected to the factory blue wire. That's our brake output. The new brown wire, that'll get connected to the factory brown wire. And last but not least, the new yellow wire, that's gonna get connected to the factory gray wire, which is the reverse. So with that said, we'll go ahead and start doing these one at a time. Cut it back. Get the insul
