How different does a game have to be to have its own identity and, most importantly, to appeal to a specific audience? I'd argue that very small differences can change everything in terms of subjective appeal and the industry could benefit from not being too quick to think something is "done already". Digimon, Palworld, Pokemon; Metal Gear Solid, Splinter Cell; Street Fighter, King of Fighters; Grand Theft Auto, Saints Row; there are a great number of games that almost mirror each other and still find very distinct audiences that swear by their differences. I'd much rather see industries put in the work to provide niche experiences tailored for specific audiences than keep trying to sell everyone in the world the same game and have to milk them as a result. What are your thoughts?
