We often get youngsters coming to us with the problem of chest fat or there is an increase in the chest size and we are often very confused because we read on the internet what gynecomastia is, whether it is only fat and whether it is fat and gland. So there are lot of confusions related to it. So what happens is there are two thing here that we need to remember here. One is the true gynecomastia and the other is what we call nowadays is psuedo gynecomastia or it can be called as fatty chest boobs, there are so many names for it. True gynecomastia can be found in adolescents, means youngsters in their 13 years when their hormonal changes are occurring. So because of the hormonal changes happening there is an enlargement of the glandular part of the breast and this causes an unsightly appearance on the chest and it looks permanent and this is called as the true gynecomastia. For us to consider what is the true or false gynecomastia, there are 2 to 3 criterias. One is the age, during the puberty or the post puberty age. Secondly is there is hormonal changes that is happening and thirdly three is a glandular element, the gland is hard and it is increasing in size and fourth most important thins is that it is painful. So that is what differentiate s between the true gynecomastia form the pseudo gynecomastia, which most of us have. Initially it was thought that pseudo gynecomastia or fatty chest it was uncommon, it was rare, but nowadays with the increase in obesity and lack of diet ad changes and habits and some other environmental factors and pollutant and what you are eating in your diet, all tat are adding to our diet seeing more and more of this pseudo gynecomastia. pseudo gynecomastia is what most of the people have, which is usually prevent even on older age group, that is even above 20 years of it persists and stays on ad there is no specific age for when it can be corrected, it can be operated any time surgery is the only option to get it corrected. Because it is sitting on muscles, most of the people going to the gym, the youngsters the trainers tell them to work out more on their chest muscles and exercise , because it is sitting on the chest muscles when you exercise, it becomes permanent and pushes it out further. So infact it worsens your gynecomastia, the appearance of the gynecomastia when you are doing exercise for the chest. But I would rather suggest if you want to do exercise and reduce, then just do something where you reducing your weight overall like aerobics and fat burning exercises where you are actually going to benefit from it rather than doing chest exercises. So the basic difference between pseudo gynecomastia and the fatty chest or the true gynecomastia I that the glandular element is large and of course in pseudo gynecomastia there is no pain where as in gynecomastia there is pain. So that is the major difference.
