Only months after the death of Snoke, Supreme Leader Ren and Grand Marshal Hux welcome a baby boy into their family. They name him Ares, after the god of war because they know he’s going to be a fighter. Fast-forward 17 years. Kylo goes looking for his son and finds that he’s in a holodeck simulator, testing his powers and building up a snow storm. Hux is overseeing the simulation but things get out of control. Ares’ control of the Force is slipping, his powers are getting too much for him to handle. Hurt by his own power, Ares manages to gain control when his father,Hux, calls out to him. Ares’ nightmares are getting worse. He hears a dark voice speaking to him, he sees darkness in his future. Hux and Kylo watch their son sleep one night, deciding they need to do more to help him, and Kylo’s probe of Ares’ mind brings the cause to light: Snoke isn’t dead. They go out of their son’s chambers to talk about it, both terrified that the monster has come back from the dead to prey on their son. But Snoke has sensed their interference. He strikes, using his power over the boy’s mind to seduce him further into the darkness, convincing him to steal a ship and come to him. Ares, unable to resist, follows the voice and steals a TIE. Hux is alerted by his officers about the unsanctioned departure. He contacts the ship immediately, fearing the worst, and his fears are confirmed. He appears as a hologram in Ares’ ship, who gains some control over himself and wants to listen to his father’s words but he can’t. The voice is calling to him. He jumps to hyperspace. Their son is lost. On a nameless, desert planet sits Snoke’s underground base. Resurrected by his group of loyal followers, he’s been waiting for the right time to strike against Kylo Ren, the apprentice who betrayed him, and take his son as penance. Ares walks through the base and comes to Snoke’s throne room where all is revealed, and Ares can’t believe he was tricked. He’s ashamed. Snoke is promising that he’s going to kill him but not before he delivers Ren to him. The sound of a lightsaber igniting fills the room, a crackling noise that can only be made by a lightsaber with a damaged kyber crystal. Kylo has followed Ares to Snoke’s base whilst the First Order fleet is in orbit. Hux waits early for his family to return. But it isn’t enough. Snoke’s hold on Ares is tight, just as it was on Ben. He’s fed the boy all sorts of lies about how his parents didn’t want him, how they think of him as a burden and a runt. Snoke retreats, taking Ares with him, fleeing to his Star destroyer and unleashing his army of ships, piloted by his followers, that have lay dormant on the planet, ready and waiting to rally behind the rightful Supreme Leader and destroy Kylo Ren & his family. Kylo goes back to his and Hux’s ship, only to find that Hux is firing on Snoke’s ship without the knowledge that Ares is on board, being tortured and turned into the weapon that Kylo once was for Snoke. Kylo can’t bring their son home by using the dark side. Compassion and self-sacrifice are needing, the Light is needed. Kylo goes to Hux and asks him to join him one last time, to follow him on a path they have never walked to save their son, and Hux follows. Darkness rises and light to meet it. Kylo isn't the darkness that has been foretold, it's his son. Kylo is the light. Combined with Hux, their love for their son is what is going to conquer Snoke once and forevermore, or so they hope. Ares, now with yellow Sith eyes, is waiting for his parents when they surrender themselves to Snoke on his ship, his blue lightsaber waiting in his palm. Hux tries to get through to him but Ares ignites his saber, looking so conflicted that it pains him. Kylo’s lightsaber roars to life in his hand, wanting to protest in fighting his own son but it’s needed. If he has to fall to save his son then so be it. Suddenly, he understands Han Solo more than he ever has before. Will Hux and Kylo be able to get through to Ares and bring him home? Or will Snoke prevail?
