It is now 100 years since the Black Wall Street massacre. Though some actions have been taken, there remain huge disparities in both opportunities and outcomes. These are not just US issues – numerous other countries have similar challenges, with people of color excluded by education, experience and access to capital amongst other factors. Meanwhile, although themes related to ‘diversity, equity and inclusion’ have become a significant element of the broader discussion amongst those interested in ESG, impact investment and sustainability, the amount of capital flowing to minority-owned businesses remains tiny. We will explore the following questions: How far have we come since Black Wall Street? What are the barriers to delivering true economic inclusion in our society globally? What we can each do to help deliver the changes that are needed? This episode of ESGX Live will open with remarks from our guests to provide more context on how the communities themselves perceive the problems. This will be followed by an interactive discussion, where we will seek views and perspectives from our live audience and seek to identify practical actions that can be take. We will be joined by: Educator and humanitarian Dr Oliver Spencer Delores Henderson, Delores Works Ron Homer, Access Capital Strategies as well as guest host Doug Heske (Newday Impact) and our regular co-hosts Paul Herman (HIP Investor) and Nigel Lake (Pottinger).
