George Floyd: Minneapolis police have pattern of using "excessive force" DOJ inquiry finds | FULL

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland took the podium on Friday to announce the findings of the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) investigation into the Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) practices related to the 2020 killing of George Floyd while he was in custody. Four particular findings, detailed by Garland, included: the MPD using excessive force, unlawfully discriminating against Black and Native American people in enforcement activities and discriminating against people with behavioural disabilities when responding to them in crisis. The DOJ’s investigation kicked off in April 2021, just one day after former MPD officer Derek Chauvin was convicted of murder and manslaughter for the killing of Floyd, who died on May 25, 2020. Floyd, a Black man, died after Chauvin knelt on his neck for more than nine minutes during an arrest. A bystander video captured Floyd’s fading cries of “I can’t breathe."
