Pavel Jirásek (flute) and Veronika Surkovová (bodhran) from the band Trifikus and I tried to create this musical postcard with the song Sheebeg Sheemore at the beginning of August, but in the last seconds of filming, a harvester from a neighboring field won over us. This time we equipped ourselves better and gave it. We wish you a pleasant listening experience from the vicinity of Starý (Old) Berštejn Castle. Starý Berštejn is a clearly visible castle ruin from the 15th century on the basalt Berkovský vrch near the town of Dubá in the Česká Lípa district. The castle was built by Jindřich Hlaváč of Dubá shortly after 1400, during the period when the property was divided between the members of the growing family. In 1407, Jindřich also inherited Jestřebí from his brother, and both mansions belonged to him. Sometime in the middle of the 15th century, Berštejn was acquired by the lords of Vartenberk, [3] Zikmund of Berštejn is mentioned specifically, and even later the knights from Šebířov are mentioned as owners. From them, around 1500, the property returned to the Berks, Jiří Berk. In 1512, there is a record that Jiří Berka was granted a degree from Berštejn. The castle did not provide much comfort, so Jiří and his son more often stayed at the castle in Kuří Vody (today Kuřívody). In 1547, the estate was divided between Aleš's sons, and the castle was acquired by Adam Berka (also spelled Adam Berka z Dubé and Lipé). It was he who decided to build a new residence, the Nový Berštejn castle. He no longer took care of the old castle, it was abandoned, some of the building material was taken by the villagers to their houses. In the division of property between Adam's sons recorded in 1592, the castle is not mentioned at all. The song Sheebeg and Sheemore (Sí bheag - Sí mhor) is the first tune that Turlough O'Carolan (1670 - 1738) is said to have written. The gist of the song is that there was a great quarrel between the rival queens of Sheebeg and of Sheemore. First, there was a war of words, in which they tried to gain superiority over the rival party. When there was no victor, a battle ensued on the plains between Sheebeg and Sheemore, the likes of which the world had not seen since Troy. In view of the coming danger from a third party, the two queens finally made a truce to fight the enemy together.
