The Soviet team, in particular, is swooned over to this day. It was also the first major competition to be held under New Life Rules, meaning that the scores from the team competition no longer carried over into the individual events. This made for an extremely tight all-around competition, with the top 6 gymnasts separated by less than 0.300, and the gymnasts finishing third through sixth by less than 0.150. A Soviet Sweep of the podium took place with Legendary Legend Svetlana Boginskaya winning her sole World all-around title. Her teammates Natalia Laschenova and Olga Strazheva finished second and third, respectively. On the outside looking in was Romania's Cristina Bontas in fourth--with two Chinese gymnasts, Yang Bo and Chen Cuiting, rounding out the top six. I re-score the top six from this meet, using the highly subjective Code of Points that was in use at the time. Do we have another ROBBED GODDESS on our hands? Tune in to find out! It's very exciting watching gymnastics, finding out how to do gymastics, and evaluating the best gymnasts ever.
