As part of the GIZ programme Skills4Recovery, sequa supported 21 Ukrainian vocational training institutions in the regions of Poltava, Dnipro, Lviv and the city of Kyiv between December 2023 and August 2024 in the development and implementation of practice-oriented retraining courses for the unemployed and internally displaced persons. The aim was to combat the acute shortage of skilled workers on the Ukrainian labour market, which was triggered by the war, by offering needs-oriented courses in the shortest possible time. Over a nine-month project period, almost 600 people were trained in courses lasting between 8 weeks and 3,5 months and 70% of them were placed in employment immediately afterwards. The short-term courses were geared towards the current needs of the regional labour markets and were developed and implemented in close cooperation between vocational schools and companies. There was particularly strong demand for vocational qualifications for electricians, welders, car mechanics, tractor and forklift drivers as well as seamstresses.
