T'puram: The Cabinet meet today has decided to set up the Sabarimala Airport at Cheruvalli Estate in Erumeli. The airport will be built at the Estate which has an area of 2263 acres. The Estate is located at Kanjirappally Taluk in Kottayam district. The land identified for the airport was resold by Harrison company. It is presently owned by Believer’s Church headed by KP Yohannan. The government decided to construct the airport at Erumeli for the benefit of Sabarimala Pilgrims. Earlier, the State government had decided to establish an airport at Aranmula in Pathanamthitta. KGS Group, the promoters of the project had started the preliminary construction activities.
