The Castleconnell Salmon Fishery

This video was shot by Michael Murtagh the fishery manager at the time in 1995 on the famous Salmon Beats of Castleconnell. These beats were once a Mecca for salmon anglers. You can see from this video that Michael had a passion for his job and cared about the fishery. This passion was lost when Michael retired and the fishery is now derelict. We have posted this video to try restoring some of the passion in the local angling community to lobby to affect change. New practices need to be adopted migration up and down from the upper catchment prioritised. Due to the nature of this fishery it needs to be maintained as it is downstream of a hydro dam with residual flows being maintained at a fraction of what the natural river flow should be therefore not allowing the river to cleanse itself. http://www.limerickanddistrictanglers...
