So Joni married a divorced marriage therapist named Doug Weis. Now the Christian world has been virtually silent on this issue. Not surprised at all. Now this issue isn't about Joni Lamb directly. Since her husband died. She is free to remarry according to scripture. But Doug Weiss is divorced. He is also a marriage therapist- I'm not sure how that works. Scripture seems to indicate by Jesus teaching that the only reason for divorce is martial unfaithfulness. Scripture also indicates that if you are married to a believer and they depart - You should let them depart. So it this case Doug would be required to disclose why he divorced his wife. And i would say especially because he is a marriage therapist and pastor. But no details were ever released. So i found a clip on Daystar Television on a episode of Table Talk. Which Jimmy Evans explains why Doug was divorced. Jimmy Evans is a famous marriage therapist who has 40 years of experience in the field. He also speaks a lot on the End Times. Jimmy Evans tells us his views of divorce have changed And he used to only permit divorce because of martial unfaithfulness Then he started to allow divorce for physical abuse (Which most agree with these days). Then Jimmy mentions the Four A's as he calls them: Adultery Abandonment Abuse Addiction Now scripture does cover adultery as being legitimate reasons to divorce And abandonment is addressed if the person is a unbeliever who left But Abuse and Addiction are not covered in scripture. I would say this. You should divorce for physical abuse if the person will not repent and get help You should definitely separate from a relationship like that at minimum. I think the same would go for addiction. By the end of his statement Jimmy Evans seems to suggest you can divorce for emotional abuse or Trauma. I feel that this line of thinking can be a slippery slope. Once we start making exceptions. The flood gate opens up for exceptions. Let me say this. Marriage is not a contract. It is a covenant with Gods Co signing. Covenants are only broken by Death. Now there is no condemnation if you are divorced. God can forgive any sin. But marriage should be taken very very seriously At the same time should we ask people to endure possibly decades of abuse at the hands of an unrepentant sinner? Should someone stay in a marriage like that? Jimmy States "There is a difference between suffering and damage And damage is when a person is when a person is deuterating in your presence I do not have these answers myself. I am only going to present the details I am still wrestling through my thoughts on the issues. And just glad i am not a pastor anyone for the times we live in.
