How To Cook Tikoy (Nian Gao) Tikoy or Nian Gao is a type of rice cake made from glutionous rice. This rice cake is also known as a Chinese New Year’s cake since it is prepared during Chinese New Year. In the Philippines tikoy is given as as a gift for the Lunar New Year to symbolize prosperity and good luck. We cook it by coating it with egg then we pan-fry tikoy to soften it up. Which gives us crispy tikoy on the ouside while soft and sticky in the inside. The sticky texture of tikoy are to make sure Luck will ‘sticks’.
