The TEDx talk describes a simple way to grow our small ideas into big innovations. The speaker, Dr Shankar Venugopal, explains how we can overcome our fear of rejection and pursue new ideas. He analyzes the cognitive basis of idea creation and gives a technique with which we can zap our logical brain for a short while so that our creative brain can freely create new ideas. He introduces a divergent thinking tool – CREATE – to build the momentum of ideation and generate many more ideas. Then he explains, using a mythological story how to overcome difficult constraints and solve the problem. Finally, he introduces “Innovation Flow” – a proprietary methodology that he has created and trained 1000+ innovators on. FLOW is an acronym that captures the three stages of Innovation – Flow, Leap & Orient and What’s Next – a structured approach to growing ideas into innovations. This talk is useful for those who are interested in ideation, innovation and creative pursuits. Dr Shankar is a Ph. D in Material Science and a gold medalist from Indian Institute of Science, Banglore . He currently leads the technology innovation for the Automotive & Farm services business (AFS) and he is also the Dean of the Mahindra Technical Academy. He holds ten international patents and numerous new product innovation awards. Shankar is passionate about developing sustainable urban mobility solutions and his current interests span across electric vehicles, connected vehicles, autonomous vehicles and precision farming. He teaches technology innovation management at premier engineering & management institutes in India & abroad. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
