Ebates vs Rakuten — 5 Things to Know About the Cashback App's Rebranding

https://fioney.com/rakuten-vs-ebates-... Have you heard? Ebates is now Rakuten — so what does that mean for your cash back? Let's take a look at what you need to know. Rakuten: https://fioney.com/rakuten-bonus Recently you may have seen a commercial for Rakuten, showing people attempting to pronounce their name and receiving money when they do. Of course, if you’re an Ebates user, you may recognize the name Rakuten as the site’s parent company since 2014. Well, as it turns out, Ebates is now in the process of rebranding into Rakuten for some reason i can't quite figure out So what does this mean for cash back earning? Let’s take a look at 5 things you need to know about the Ebates to Rakuten change. The first thing to know about this rebrand is that Ebates users will be moved over to Rakuten in waves. According to an FAQ article on their website, Rakuten says users will be moved over from Ebates “one group at a time.” However I was seemingly able to change over just by visiting Rakuten.com while still being logged into Ebates, which seemed to flip the switch. After that, visiting Ebates.com would automatically forward me, my Chrome extension browser was updated from an E to an R, and my app icon was also replaced. Perhaps this same trick will work for you if you want to check out Rakuten now - otherwise the change will happen eventually. Next, once you do move over to Rakuten, you’ll still be able to view your past Ebates earning and retain all of your cash back. After being converted, one of the first things I noticed was that my lifetime cashback earnings were the same. Furthermore I could still view transactions I made under the Ebates banner. And of course my next payout is still set for May 15th. All in all, no harm was done and no funds were lost in the makeover As for what retailers are available on Rakuten, it seems to be the exact same line up as Ebates A theme you’ll hear from here on out is that nothing has really changed about Rakuten other than the name. That extends to the retailer line up as I have yet to notice any sort of shake up. There’s still a deep roster of participating brands offering cash back online and/or in store as well as bonus deal bringing things like double cash back to users. While these features are always subject to change, there’s no evidence of any decline on the horizon. On another positive note, the company says that referral bonuses will still be paid regardless of whether members are using Ebates or Rakuten. As you probably know, Ebates offered current users a bonus for signing up newbies. When a new user joined the site using your special link, you’d earn $25 after they made their first qualifying purchase of $25 or more. Plus they’d get $10 in the form of either a Walmart gift card or a big fat check. Well, guess what? None of that is changing. The aforementioned FAQ makes clear the changeover won’t impact current referral links or your ability to get a bonus. That said, once you do get moved over to Rakuten, you may want to use that new link going forward. Finally, with the name change, there may be a couple of tweaks n you’ll want to make to things like bookmarks or filters. Although, like I said, Ebates currently forwards me to Rakuten, the site still recommends updating your bookmark to the new site. Similarly, if you use any ad blockers or have a touchy spam filter on your email, you’ll likely want to whitelist Rakuten. It also goes without saying that, if you receive you Big Fat Checks via PayPal, future payments will bear the new name instead of the old Ebates like you may be used to.
